Unfortunately, Kendall has to be an adult and work, but the amazing Matthew takes the day off to hang out with me. Yay! After walking the lovely Kia...
...Matthew says, "let's go bird watching...." What? Really? Bird Watching..... OK..... Kill me.... However, I must say, my opinion was pleasantly changed. It's actually fascinating and has a meditative quality to it. Off to the Famosa Slough, my first bird watching outing commences. My guide is armed with binoculars and reference guide, we hike through a relatively small protected area. In about 40 min, we spot numerous types of birds. I was very surprised that so much wild life was concentrated in such a small area and now have a new appreciation for saving these areas. We spotted, Egrets, western Meadowlarks, Grebes, Great Blue Herons, Cormorants, Black Phoebes, and the Say's Phoebe. Who knew?
I only have a few photos because my camera wasn't working properly....
Next stop is The San Diego Zoo! ~ another free ticket!
The San Diego Zoo in Balboa Park is beautiful. The exhibits are wonderful. For about 2/3 of the trip, I was continuing to have issues with my camera so I missed a lot of photos, but then it dawned on me.... I, my friends, am an idiot. Yes, the blonde hair may be gray now, but it is still blonde! The camera was working fine..... it was I that wasn't working properly.... Funny what putting your reading glasses on will accomplish! doh! After figuring that out, I took these:
Seltzo also joined us again with his adorable daughter, Dottie. What a sweetheart!
The day ended with a trip to the Wonderland Ocean Pub in Ocean Beach. If you're ever there, try the White Rascal!
As we walk back to the car, I see this fabulous peace shack:
What a great visit with amazing friends. Thank you Kendall and Matthew for welcoming me into your home! You must come visit me on the redneck riviera!
Day two is complete and I'm off to Los Angeles ...
