How does one pack for 6 weeks and two climates? This conundrum keeps me in procrastination mode, but I'm leaving in the morning.... I need to get it together... Running around from store to store, I turn down an invitation to an Iron Bowl party, which is sacrilege in Alabama. Thank goodness though... I don't think I could have handled the heartbreak.... (Really??? 109 yard touchdown? really?)
It's 9 PM and somehow I've managed to pack everything in two bags. Yes, only TWO bags! I'm kind of proud of this.
Now, I just have to figure out how to get to sleep.... As if that's going to happen....

The first day of the adventure has arrived.... Planning for 11 months, and it starts today at 3:30 AM... as if I was going to get any sleep! Saying goodbye to my babies, Virgil & Tinkey, is the hardest part of this adventure.... I hate leaving them, but hopefully they will be OK with the house sitter. If they're not, I've successfully raised spoiled kitties who have forgotten the gutters they came from! Perhaps a good thing I'm not a parent! haha Out the door and at my friend Russell's house at 5:15 AM. A true friend wakes up on a Sunday and takes you to the airport and keeps your car for you!! In the dark I'm off to MO! Checked in and at the gate , the puddle jumper takes off on time, and I'm off to Dallas! I have 35 minutes to make my connection.. dashing through the airport, I get to the gate as they're announcing the final boarding call... I'm on the plane to San Diego.... Surrounded by servicemen - NO COMPLAINTS here! A few good men indeed! haha
I land in San Diego at 10:45 AM, and my friends, Matthew and Kendall whisk me off to my first NFL football game complete with tailgating and revelry! Did I mention FREE 50 yard line tix?? Thank you Seltzo (sp?). Qualcom stadium was a great time. Didn't hurt that it was 35 degrees in Mobile and now it's 77 degrees in Sunny California!
Unfortunately, the Chargers tank and we leave before the 4th quarter is over, but the day isn't over. I get to witness a magnificent sunset at Ocean Beach... sigh, I am a speck.
Can you believe all of that was day ONE!!! 40 more days to go!
